Book: Search for Safety
Author: Paul Langan

Plot: The plot in this story is when Ben starts having problems with his family at home.

Theme: Ben is lying to the principal, his friends, and family about his problem at home.

Authors morning routines: The author gets up early so he can think about how his morning and day is going to be.  He probably does Yoga in order to get relaxed and forget about what is happening outside the world.  Also, I imagine the author writing more books so he can keep impressing and entertaining his readers.

Literacy Techniques:

  • Figurative language: helps me understand the reading because in the story there are many arguments involved.
  • Characterizations: helps me because I could imagine what each character is doing.
  • Personification: Helps me understand how the characters are on the story.
  • Metaphors: " Larry kicked me with his heavy black work boot."
  • Flashback: Some parts of the story make me remember about how I act with my parents.
Next Level: 

  1. What drew me into this book is that I really like them because they talk about real life situations.  I experience that you have to always ask for help when you need it.
  2. What keeps me reading past the first ten pages is that the problems in life started to come out.
  3. My reading habits are to read a book everyday and to make me want to keep reading more and more books.
Second Part: The authors purpose is to make us understand that there are times where you will suffer in life.  Characters are doing their best to get along with each other.

Authors Tunes:
  • Mindless : doesn't want help from others
  • Enthusiastic: when family problems are solved.
  • Indifferent: doesn't give up on life
Foreshadowing:
  • When he never gives up (pg. 23)
  • Gets hep from others (pg. 50)
  • protects family (pg. 34)
Part Three: After reading the book, I felt like I was meeting the author in person because of how powerful and interesting the book/story is.  Changes when the family gets back together with their problems solved.

       A character who is dynamic is a character that changes throughout the story.  A dynamic character from this book is Jean Valjean.  This character changes throughout the book because he goes to jail because he stole a loaf of bread for his sister's children, he got the silver place from the bishop, and he stole the coin from a little boy.       Jean Valjean is a dynamic character in this story because he was arrested and sent to jail for stealing a loaf of bread.  He wanted to help his sister because she didn't have a job or food to help her with her children.  He decided to go to the bakery to steal a loaf of bread for his family.  In page 83, and 84 it states that," One Sunday night, the bakery on the Place d l'Eglise was close by.  He punched with his fist against the glass.  The arm seized one loaf of bread and took it."  This means to me that Jean Valjean really cares about his family and doesn't...

Book: Summer of Secrets Author: Paul Langan Plot : The plot in this story is when Darcy wonders why her parents get into an argument and then the sister Jamee, starts having boyfriends and hangs out with them all the time. LES MIS PART I SUMMARY

     While reading Les Mis I learned that Monseigner Bienvenu tried to do everything good but he still didn't fit in with others. This makes me think that you don't have to be rich or popular in order to succeed in life.  Succeed means to me that you are trying everything to get what you want.  I think that Monseigner Bienbevenu is a great person and that he deserves to be the best because he is capable of doing what he wants.      Another thing I find interesting while reading Les Mis is that Monseigner is a very helpful person. When old or young, rich or poor come to his house he always helps them and gives the what they need.
