RECIPE FOR A HAPPY LIFE

The ingredients for a happy adulthood are to not get too stressed, always have some time to relax and relive from problems.  On ones childhood, it depends a lot.  To me it depends a lot because you really have to do school work and study for tests instead of having a more peaceful life.  You always need to find some space to be able to think about other things and not just one.

FRENCH HISTORY & LES MIS

The French Revolution began with the storming of the Bastille in 1789.  The principal events of Les Miserables take place during 1832.  In 1789, food shortages and economic rises led to the outbreak of the French Revolution.  King Louis and his queen, Mary-Antoinette, were imprisoned in August 1792, and September the monarchy was abolished.  Napoleon Bonaparte rapidly rose through the ranks of the military during the French Revolution (1789-1799). The June Rebellion, also known as the Paris Uprising of 1832, took place between June 5-6, 1832.  Anti-monarchist republicans in Paris Began the uprising attempting to turn back the 1830 July Monarchy.

TRIAD OF GOOD, EVIL, & JUSTICE

I predict that Javert will take Jean Valjean with him and that they are going to leave Fantine alone with Sister Simplice.  Also, I think that Javert is going to tell Fantine everything that he knows about Jean Valjean and that , that news is probably going to make Fantine get more worst and could possibly die.  After, I think that Javert will be satisfied with what he did and arrest Valjean.

LES MIS ISN’T FUNNY

I think that Victor Hugo doesn’t use more humor in Les Mis because at this part of the book M. Madeleine (Jean Valjean) is honest to the judge that he is Jean Valjean and that he was the one who stole the bishops silver and Petit coin.  He wants us the readers to reflect on what he did and that now he is honest on what he did and who he is. He wants to let us know that doing what is right can help you with the situation you are in.  I also think that Victor Hugo doesn't use any more humor because he is regretting his past and wants everyone to know what he did and he doesn't want that to happen again. He wants to save peoples lives.

WHEN THE PAST IS PRESENT

I think that Jean Valjean did manage to put his past behind.  I think of this because when he remembers about his past and how his life was, he doesn't want that to happen again.  When Jean Valjean went to go find Cosette and bring her home, he was wanting to give up because his conscience wasn't letting him think.  But, he remembered about Fantine and Cosette and he wanted to save both of their lives and wanted them to be together. For example, on page 261 it states that, " All he thought about during the road was about Cosette and Fantine."  This means to me that he really cares about others and wants to help others out.  I think that it was a good idea for Jean Valjean to manage his past because it would help him reflect on what he did wrong.

HAVE TO VERSES WANT TO

The difference between agreeing to a complete work for each other and being told what to do for homework is different in many ways.  To agree to complete a work is that you are saying something that you have to accomplish in order to show the other people that you do what you say.  You have to be responsible for your actions and sayings.  Being told what to do for homework is more different because in this case someone is telling you what you have to do, but you also have to be responsible for yourself and to honor what you have to do in order to get trust from others.  And to get your work done.

HOW YOU KNOW WHAT I KNOW

I can show what I learned while reading by sometimes going over the book and scanning through it to find the parts that I think are the most important to me. Another way I can show you what I learned while reading the book is by having a mini-quiz on what happened during those pages.

2/13 NOTES ON LES MIS

I think that Hugo emphasized this because he thinks that probably later on in the story they will talk more about what Sister Simplice tries to say.  I think that this is important because the author wants us to know that the quote is for someone who would never lie and keep everything to herself.  I don't think that her honesty will be factored because mostly every character in this story has a lie or has make mistakes.  I think that she will be forced to tell a lie.

JAVERT

My impression on the book was OK until Javert came along.   I thought that he was a helpful and nice person.  Later on, when I started reading the book I started knowing more about Javert and I found out that he is a mean person.  He is very different from the other characters because the other characters are very nice and help each other but this one is mean and was making Fantine stay in jail.  He was accusing her.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS

I think that people do what they do because they think that they are always doing the right choice.  Sometimes you just do what you do without even thinking.  Many people are sometimes under pressure and are forced to do things that they don't want to do or maybe they don't have any other option but to do what they can.  People do what they do because they don't think about themselves and others.  They only think and care about what's wrong and do the wrong decisions.

LES MIS 155-177

Father Madeleine "performed a multitude of good actions, concealing his agency in them as a man conceals himself because of evil actions.  He had gray hair, a serious eye, the thoughtful visage of a philosopher."
